  • I was given my first camera, an Agfa Autostar, at the age of 8, when my family and I lived in northern Germany, and I am still studying the craft in classes and in the field. I worked for several years as an assistant for three photographers — fashion, commercial and corporate/industrial — at the tops of their games.

I spent 25 years as a print journalist, working at newspapers in New York and Connecticut, ranging from a tiny weekly (The Glen Cove Guardian) to a metro daily (The Hartford Courant). I worked as editor, reporter and photographer.

Armed with a master's degree in rhetoric, I taught college writing in Connecticut — at Middlesex Community College in Middletown and Quinnipiac University in Hamden.
